Greece beat the Czech Republic with a score of 94-88 in a dramatic game at the knockout phase of Eurobasket 2022 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.

This was the sixth consecutive win for the Greek national team, which marched onto the Round of 16 undefeated, as it finished the EuroBasket group phase with five wins in five games.

The next game will see Greece battle with Germany in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, September 13th. This will be Greece’s eighth time in the quarterfinals in the last nine tournaments.

Spain, Finland, Slovenia, Poland, France, and Italy are the other six teams that qualified for the Eurobasket quarterfinals.

The Suspenseful Eurobasket game of Greece vs Czech Republic

The Czechs were leading the score against the Greek national team in Berlin up until the end of the third quarter.

It was only at the beginning of the fourth quarter that Greece took the lead with consecutive shots, leaving the Czech Republic several points behind.

Opening that last quarter on a 15-3 run, Greece pulled ahead 78-70 with under five minutes left.

“More drama than a Mexican telenovela,” FIBA commented on the official Twitter account of Eurobasket 2022 in the last minutes of the suspenseful game.

Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo had only scored five points in the first twenty-three minutes of the game but finished with twenty-seven points, ten rebounds and five assists.

After a hard-fought 89-85 win over Croatia in its debut game in Milan, Greece had gotten good tests in wins over Italy and Ukraine, as well as two comfortable wins over Estonia and Great Britain.

On the other hand, the Czech Republic made it through to the phase of sixteen thanks to a last day win over Israel to go with their win over the Netherlands. They had previously lost to Finland, Poland, and Serbia.
