Antigoni Ntrismpioti won the gold medal for Greece in the 35 kilometer women’s race walking at the European Athletics Championships 2022, held in Munich from August 15th to August 21st.

The Greek athlete received her medal with tears of joy as the national anthem started to play.

The European champion covered the 35 kilometer distance in 2 hours and 47 minutes and crossed the finish line carrying the Greek flag over her shoulders.

This is the first year that a 35 kilometer race has been included in the European Athletics Championships.

Ntrismpioti’s race for medal

In July, Ntrismpioti won fourth place at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA, finishing the 35 kilometer race in 2 hours and 41 minutes and setting a new national record in Greek race walking.

The Karditsa native has a long history at the World and European Championships, where she first competed in 2013 and 2014. She then returned to the World Championships in 2017 and 2019 and to the European Championships in 2018.

Her first medal was the bronze she won at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin.

Since then, she has also represented Greece at the 2021 Olympic Games, where she took 8th place and at the 2016 Olympics, where she finished in 15th place.

Summer of achievement for Greek athletics

Earlier this summer, Olympic and European champion Miltiadis Tentoglou achieved yet another moment of success, as he won the silver medal for Greece in the long jump at the World Athletics Championship 2022 in Eugene, Oregon in the United States.

This was the first medal for Tentoglou at a World Athletics Championship competition.

Earlier this year, the Greek track and field athlete became the world indoor champion and set a Greek indoor record of 8.55 meters, which placed him sixth on the world indoor all-time list, according to Wikipedia.
