Actress Nicole Kidman is among the latest celebrities to have visited Greek islands. While always a popular summertime destination for celebrities, Greece has seemingly become the go-to spot in recent weeks.

On her Instagram account beside a photo of her floating in turquoise waters next to a rocky cliff, Kidman wrote, “Thank you, beautiful Greece.”

Kidman, who won the Academy Award for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours, wasn’t the only Hollywood actress to vacation in Greece.

Billionaire Elon Musk has been vacationing in Mykonos, and The Wolf of Wall Street Jordan Belfort and his wife were there this month, celebrating his sixtieth birthday.

NBA legend Magic Johnson and his family also sailed Greece’s Aegean Sea aboard his $150 million luxury yacht and tweeted much of his journey along the way.

And in June, Beatles legend Paul McCartney celebrated his eightieth birthday with his family aboard a luxury yacht off Mykonos.

But despite Greece’s status as summer hotspot, a newly released report found that more than 43 percent of all employed Greek citizens cannot afford to go on vacation.

They total more than 1.6 million of the 38 million workers across European Union member states who could not afford a one-week vacation, according to a survey by the European Trade Union Institute.

Greece’s 43.4 percent of workers who can’t afford a vacation—up from 41.3 percent in 2019—makes it one of the highest percentages among European Union countries in that category. The General Counsel of Workers of Greece published the latest results.
