Robert De Niro will soon be in Greece, as the Tin Soldier, a major motion picture featuring the Hollywood star will be shot in the northern Greek region of Drama starting in late May.

De Niro, Jamie Foxx, Scott Eastwood, and John Leguizamo have been cast in Tin Soldier. Brad Furman is directing a script written by Jess Fuerst. According to reports, filming will last until July 30th.

The film will include scenes in the town of Drama at the foot of Mount Falakro. Located in a verdant area with abundant water sources, Drama has been an integral part of the Hellenic world since the classical era.

Filming will also take place in other locations in the region, such as at the Aggitis river cave, one of the largest and most spectacular river caves in all of Europe.

“The production people have already booked two hotel units in our city. We are happy that Drama is entering the map of the film industry,” said Drama Deputy Governor Grigoris Papaemmanuel.

Local businesses and hotels in Drama, which is located in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, are expecting around 300 people, including cast and crew, to descend on the region.

De Niro opens restaurant in Santorini, Greece

De Niro has also personally invested in Greece with a Nobu Hotel that opened on the island of Santorini this spring.

Nobu is a rising name in terms of luxury hotels, but it is already well-known in the dining world as an international chain of high-end sushi restaurants.

Located in the village of Imerovigli, which provides some of the most stunning views of the entire island, the Nobu Hotel will also feature a signature Nobu Restaurant, luxury spa, and fitness center.

Tin Soldier film is an action movie with “awe-inspiring settings”

According to Deadline, Tin Soldier tells the story of The Bokushi (Foxx), who preaches to hundreds of veterans who have been drawn to the promise of protection and purpose under him. Surrounded by his devout military-trained followers, he has built an impenetrable fortress and amassed an arsenal of weapons.

After several failed infiltration attempts, the government—in the form of military operative Emmanuel Ashburn (De Niro)—recruits Nash Cavanaugh (Eastwood), an ex-special forces asset, who was once a disciple of The Bokushi. Nash agrees to use his vulnerable past and insider knowledge of the enigmatic leader to finally get revenge on the man who took everything from him, including the love of his life.

“I am honored to be a part of the team behind such an ambitious, important, and deeply personal work in Tin Soldier,” director Furman said.

“With awe-inspiring settings and set pieces built for the big screen, this is an original story about struggle, sacrifice and the power of love and acceptance. To collaborate with a cast of this caliber is beyond humbling,” said the director. “The individual inspiration they have brought to each role is like nothing I have seen before. This has been an exciting journey and my hope is the film is even more exciting for audiences around the world.”

Greece becomes a leading filming destination

The new Hollywood movie cements Greece as an international filming destination for cinema and television.

The Hollywood film The Expendables 4 was filmed in Thessaloniki in November. A set has been constructed on the eastern side of the city where the cast and crew filmed their scenes over the course of two weeks.

The city hosted several of Hollywood’s brightest stars with Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, and Andy Garcia all participating in the Thessaloniki filming. Franchise creator Sylvester Stallone also participated in the shoot although it was the last time he worked on the series.
