Singer Grimes and her husband Elon Musk secretly had a baby girl, their second child, via surrogate in December, Grimes revealed in an interview in Vanity Fair that was published on Thursday.
The baby girl, named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, or “Y” for short, cried during the interview, after which Grimes revealed that the couple welcomed their daughter into the world in December. She previously had no intention of announcing the birth of her daughter publicly.
On Twitter, Grimes, born Claire Boucher, in Canada, wrote that she “didn’t mean for them 2 [sic] find out about my daughter so please respect her privacy as I’d love her to be able to live as private of a life as possible.”
She also stated that this may be the last personal interview she would do with traditional press, as she is a “very private person.”

The couple have a son together named X Æ A-Xii who was born in May 2020.
The couple had a widely publicized break up in September 2021, although many speculated that they were still together as they attended the 2021 Met Gala together just weeks before the breakup, even though Grimes walked the length of the red carpet alone.
“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently, and are on great terms,” Musk told reporters at the time, elaborating that his never-ending business-related travel had kept the couple apart.
In the interview, Grimes, 33, described their relationship, which began in 2018, as “fluid…There’s no real word for it.”

“I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time … We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it,” she said.
On Twitter, she further clarified that she and Musk had since broken up yet again — since the story was published — but that “he’s my best friend and the love of my life.”
Grimes is known for her eccentric style and unique music, which incorporate elements from many different genres.
The business and space exploration mogul Musk has five sons with his ex-wife, the author Justine Wilson, including twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damian, Saxon, and Kai.
The Musks divorced in 2008. Later, Musk was married to Westworld actress Talulah Riley, twice, from 2010 to 2012, and then again from 2013-16.
