Coronavirus Death Toll in Greece Among Highest in the World

Greece announced that a total of 20,507 new coronavirus cases had been diagnosed around the country on Friday, while 108 people suffering with the virus had passed away over the past 24 hours.

The increased death rate per million in Greece, which is higher than most European countries and even the US, has caused major concern in the country.

There had been a total of 81 coronavirus-related deaths in Greece on Thursday; Friday’s total represented an increase of 27. A total of 18,869 Covid-19 cases had been diagnosed on Thursday in Greece.

The number of admissions of new coronavirus patients to Greek hospitals on Friday came to 467, showing a daily decrease of -7.71%. The average number of admissions over the last seven days was 512 patients.

Meanwhile, there are 679 people on ventilators across Greece on Friday, showing a decrease of nine from the day prior.

80.71% of intubated patients with the coronavirus in Greece are unvaccinated

Among intubated patients, officials state that 548 (80.71%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 131 (19.29%) are fully vaccinated.

A total of 59 Covid-19 cases were identified after checks at the country’s entrance gates and borders.

The total number of cases as of Friday comes to 1,762,870. Based on the confirmed cases of the last seven days, 433 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,643 are related to an already known case.

A total of 22,476 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. Almost all of the victims, 95.0%, suffered from underlying disease and / or were age 70 years and older.

On Friday, officials from the EODY stated that 81.3% of all intubated patients have an underlying disease and / or are age 70 years and older.

The median age of death in those who have the coronavirus in Greece is 78 years, showing no change from several days prior.
