A total 130 people with the coronavirus passed away in Greece on Tuesday alone, which is the second highest number of people who have died with Covid-19 in Greece in one day since the beginning of the pandemic.
The highest number of deaths recorded in Greece in one day was 134, which was on May 3, 2021.
A total of 96 people passed away with Covid-19 in the country the day before, on Monday.
Greece recorded a total of 5,736 cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, 1,895 more than the 3,841 recorded on Monday.
The record for the highest number of coronavirus cases recorded in one day in Greece was broken on November 9, when 8,623 cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed.
Just seven of Tuesday’s cases were identified during routine Covid-19 testing of tourists at the country’s borders.
Currently, there are 700 patients with the coronavirus on ventilators in Greece, nine fewer than the 709 in the country on Monday.
1,786 Coronavirus cases in Attica, 901 in Thessaloniki
Of the 5,736 new coronavirus cases recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, 1,786 were located in Attica, home to the Greek capital city of Athens.
A total of 565 cases of Covid-19 were identified in central Athens on Tuesday.
In Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece, 901 cases of the virus were identified today.
Over one million cases of the covid-19 recorded in Greece
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 1,012,659 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the country, including all those who have recovered from the virus.
Of the 700 patients intubated currently, 80.1% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions. Their average age is 64.
The majority of those who are on ventilators in Greece, or 81.14%, are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Additionally, a total of 3,625 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
The 130 new deaths recorded on Tuesday bring the total number of coronavirus-related fatalities in the country to 19,475.
