The renowned Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir, youth choir and orchestra will present its 45th annual Cathedral Christmas concert, called “The Sounds of Christmas,” on Saturday December 18th, 2021 at 7:30PM.

An online broadcast of “The Sounds of Christmas” concert will be available from December 23rd-December 26th. For those who would like to experience this beautiful event in person, tickets are available online via this link.

Highlights of the concert will include the world premiere of “Κατεπλάγη Ιωσήφ”, composed by Dawn Helene and orchestrated by Hilary Baboukis, as well as “Σήμερον γεννάται εκ Παρθένου”, “Λύτρωσιν απέστειλε”, the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel, “One Small Child” and “Little Drummer Boy” featuring the Cathedral Youth Choir.

Some of the most famous songs and hymns of Christmas, such as “O Come all ye Faithful” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, in both English and Greek arrangements, will also be sung to mark the joyous season. As always, there will be a sing-along portion of the program and all the faithful are invited to join in singing with the choir.

2021’s Christmas Concert to return as live event after virtual event in 2020

This year’s concert will be under the baton of Maestro Costas Tsourakis, the Greek-American baritone who is the newly appointed director of the Archdiocesan Choir. For the first time in its history, the concert will also feature the Cathedral Youth Choir, which was created by Maestro Tsourakis just this September in order to teach the cathedral’s youth community about music and the great hymns of the church.

The concert will be followed by a reception called “The Flavors of Christmas” in the Cathedral Undercroft. The annual Christmas Concert at Holy Trinity Cathedral has become a staple on the New York holiday concert scene, continuing a tradition that began with the first concert under the baton of the late maestro Dr. Dino Anagnost in 1976.

Following the success of last year’s Archdiocesan Virtual Concert, “God is With Us,” a virtual concert version of “The Sounds of Christmas” will also premiere on December 23 at 8 pm EST and will be available through December 26.

Tickets for the concert, available here, range in price from $30 to $125; all proceeds from the event will benefit the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. The Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir is led by Music Director Costas Tsourakis. Dawn Helene is the cathedral’s Dino Anagnost Artist-in-Residence.
