At just five years of age, young genius Nikolas Makrimanolakis from Crete already speaks and writes in English and spends his free time learning the intricacies of the human anatomy.

The Greek child, who has an IQ of 140, dreams of either becoming an astronaut or a physician for astronauts when he grows up.

Unlike other kids his age, Makrimanolakis, who is from the city of Heraklion, didn’t want to spend his summer months on the beach, but in the classroom taking English lessons.

He didn’t need to learn English from scratch, however — since he has already known how to speak and write in English since the age of three — but rather rather to perfect his understanding of the language.

Makrimanolakis’ parents, Manolis Makrimanolakis and Roza Politarchou, have always supported their son, whose IQ puts him at the “genius” level.

Speaking to Cretalive, the child’s parents discussed the difficulties of raising a child with such a high intelligence level. They expressed that they constantly struggle to find a balance between fostering their son’s natural talents and providing him a “normal” life.

Nicolas has always yearned to learn more, but he is still a child, and his parents don’t want him to lose out on the experiences of childhood. They try to stress that while he is talented and exceptionally intelligent, all children have their own talents and abilities and one is not “better” than the other.

His parents always try to support his many interests, and never pressure or push him to pursue something he doesn’t want to do just because of his IQ.

Makrimanolakis has big dreams for his future. “When I grow up, I want to become an astronaut and make rockets. However, I would also like to work for NASA as a doctor for the astronauts,” he stated.

Becoming a doctor for astronauts would not come as a surprise, as the young genius loves to study and read books about human anatomy, astronomy, and geography. His love of reading began early, as the child finished his first book at the age of three.

He already knows about human anatomy and the solar system in detail, and is great at spelling in both Greek and English. Now that he’s mastered English, the young genius would like to learn other languages as well.

His parents began to notice that their child was exceptionally bright from a very young age. At just two, Markimanolakis began learning to write in both Greek and in English. His teachers at day care even put him in classes with older children.

His parents credit the support of exceptional educators throughout their son’s life for his rapid educational progress, believing that these teachers helped him take advantage of his natural abilities.
