Actor and musician John Stamos will guest star on “American Idol” as a mentor to the season’s top nine contestants on a special Disney World episode on May 2.

The finalists from the 2021 talent show competition were taken to The Most Magical Place on Earth along with one competitor from a previous season. Only seven finalists would be left by the end of the episode.

Uncle Jesse as a Musician

Most people recognize Stamos from his acting career, most notably as Uncle Jesse in “Full House.” However, the actor has also had a lengthy career as a drummer and singer as well.

Stamos previously lent his drumming talents to world-famous band “The Beach Boys” for a collaboration focused on pandemic relief.

The 57-year-old star also appeared alongside fellow Greek-American Kelly Clarkson to belt out “Kokomo” on her talk show.

John Stamos guest mentors on “American Idol”

It’s fitting that Stamos was the guest judge for the special American Idol Disney Night episode, as he is a frequent collaborator with Disney himself. He performed in “The Little Mermaid Live” as the eccentric Chef Louis. Stamos’ rendition of “Les Poissons” left social media users enthralled.

On this “American Idol” episode starring Stamos, singers also performed pieces from the Disney songbook.

ABC asked Stamos how he felt about being asked to mentor young singers on the program. He joked around, saying, “You’re kidding right? I feel like I would give one note and they would say, Stamos, we’ve heard you sing….stop.”

Jokes aside, Stamos went on to give a lot of constructive advice for the singers’ live performances. The star was also incredibly supportive of the talents on the show.

At one point, Stamos remarked “I’m fascinated at the fearlessness that these kids can bring to these performances and their life. I have as much to learn from them, clearly.”

The “American Idol” episode also hit a personal note for Stamos, who grew up near Disney Land in California. He shared how wonderful he always found the amusement park growing up, and does so even to this day. Stamos spoke about how the Disney parks provide a wonderful, magical escape from the routines of daily life.

The 19th season of “American Idol” premiered on February 14, 2021 on ABC. Ryan Seacrest is starring once again as the host of this series revival of the original talent show.
