What would you think if someone told you that a single black marker can change an entire coffee shop? It sounds crazy, right?
Well… it happened.
Solasta, located in Monastiraki, downtown Athens, used to attract thousands of people before the pandemic.
What is unique about this shop, however, is the fact that it chose to trust its fate to the exceptionally talented hands of Papadimos.
All it took for a total transformation was a ladder and a marker.
”The variety of elements of the space as well as the colorful furniture and decorations led to the decision of a monochrome mural with a maximal and intricate illustration that created a playful morning atmosphere but also a mysterious and sophisticated impression at night,” Papadimos explains in his Behance social media profile.
”The theme of the illustration blends into the store’s status as a vegan restaurant and invites guests to enjoy their coffee and get lost in the patterns and elements hidden in the chaotic illustration,” he adds.
What is even more fascinating with Papadimos’ work, is that the entire artwork was completed without a draft or pattern of any kind to guide his moves.
The entire project was based on improvision,”with a constant review of the shapes within the space and the overall layout of the form moving around on all surfaces,” he explains.
Papadimos’ determination and talent is a perfect example of how ordinary Greek artists can do wonders when businesses and shop owners decide to trust their talent, instead of using uninspired, pre-fabricated wallpapers and works of art.
