Greek-American philanthropist Marianne Metropoulos donated $1 million to Prince Charles’ charity Prince’s Trust International as part of a multi-million dollar pledge over a period of five years, becoming the charity’s first principal benefactor.

The Prince’s Trust International was launched in 2015 by Charles, Prince of Wales, and helps tens of thousands of young people across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean gain access to education and employment.

Greek-American philanthropist Marianne Metropoulos “proud” to support charity in Greece

Metropoulos’ $1 million donation has already gone to support countless people in need in Greece, where the Prince’s Trust has been working since 2018 to foster employment opportunities for talented Greek youth.

Since the Prince’s Trust began operations in Greece, over 70% of the young participants in its employability programs have moved on to further develop their careers.

“I am proud to support these very valuable educational programs in my country of origin. Education is the key to a nation’s future… and I look forward to working with Prince’s Trust International on programmes in other countries over the coming years,” Metropoulos expressed.

Metropoulos, like many Greek-Americans and Greeks of the diaspora, understands the transformative nature of education and employment opportunities for those in need.

For this reason, the Greek-American philanthropist was compelled to assist the Prince’s Trust in offering employment and educational opportunities to youth in Greece and around the world.

Prince’s Trust has helped Greeks find work throughout the pandemic

The charity’s work in Greece in response to the Covid-19 pandemic has been particularly beneficial to the country’s youth, who face unprecedented economic, employment, and educational instability due to the coronavirus.

Since March 2020, the Prince’s Trust has helped over 200 young Greeks find work during the difficult period, and has even reached out toward those living in rural areas that often lack access employment opportunities.

Recognizing the incredibly font of talent and capability amongst the Greek youth, the Prince’s Trust also cultivates and fosters entrepreneurship amongst Greeks in Athens and in Crete through specific programs focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.
