Covid 19: New Cases Over 3,000 for Second Consecutive Day, Record 336 Intubations in Greece

On Friday, it was announced that 3,038 cases of Covid-19 had been diagnosed in Greece over the last 24 hours and 38 people who had suffered from the virus had died. There are currently a record 336 intubated patients in intensive care units around the country.
This marks the second consecutive day with the recorded cases of Covid-19 numbering over 3,000 in Greece. Just yesterday, Thursday, 3,316 cases were diagnosed in the country, and 50 people suffering with the virus died.
Thursday’s figures marked the largest number of Covid cases and deaths recorded in a single day in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the 3,038 new cases announced on Friday, just 11 were identified during testing at Greece’s points of entry.
In Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, 725 cases of the virus were recorded on Friday. Officials consider the city, located in northern Greece, to be the epicenter of the virus in the country.
Doctors there are crying out about the condition of the hospitals in the city, many of which are operating at near capacity due to the overwhelming number of patients with the virus.
Attica, home to the capital city of Athens, had 697 of the 3,038 cases recorded on Friday.
In total, 69,675 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic, including all those who have recovered from the virus. Of this total, 4,601 are associated with foreign travel and 18,334 with contact with a known case.
Of the 336 intubated patients, 81.8% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions. Their median age is 65, and 100 of the patients are women. A total of 362 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country.
The 38 new deaths recorded on Friday bring the number of total fatalities in the country to 997. Of those who lost their lives after suffering with the virus, a total of 399 have been women.
The median age of those who passed away from Covid-19 is 80, and 96.9% of them were over the age of 70 or had underlying health issues.
