Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis rejected plans by the football authorities to allow spectators to return to the stadiums this week.
The Prime Minister said that the decision to allow a limited number of supporters to attend football matches was wrong and was sending the wrong signal as the country is battling the second coronavirus wave.
Earlier, football authorities announced that starting on Wednesday, at the game between Olympiacos and French team Marseille for the Champions League group stage, a 10 percent capacity would have been allowed.
In addition, they had announced that one or two Greek Super League games would have been allowed to take place with spectators this coming weekend.
The UEFA has given the green light for matches to be held with spectators under strict health regulations, but this is subject to the approval of each country’s government.
