UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Receive 2020 Concordia Leadership Award

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is to receive the 2020 Concordia Leadership Award for the Public Sector at Concordia’s 10th Anniversary Celebration on September 24th.

Each year, Concordia presents the Leadership Award to three changemakers across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who have confronted the world’s most complex challenges and turned vision into impact

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the non-profit organization dedicated to form cross-sector partnerships to tackle global social issues with substantial results. Concordia was founded in 2011 by Matthew A. Swift and Nicholas M. Logothetis.

For this year, Mr. Guterres, the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations since January 2017, will be awarded for his exceptional work.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Guterres served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015 and was Prime Minister of Portugal between 1995 and 2002 (two terms), creating multilateral cooperation to transform the European economy, and also induced fellow leaders to commit to refugee protection during the severe  displacement crisis.

His work as a lifelong public servant, his integrity and his ability to bring people together in service of the world’s most vulnerable is honored by Concordia with the Leadership Award for 2020.

At the organization’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, UN Secretary-General Guterres will be accepting the Leadership Award, along with environmental activist Christiana Figueres.

Coming up is Concordia’s 10th Annual Summit (September 21-25) which will host world leaders to share their vision in an open, transparent, and inclusive virtual forum. Heads of state, CEOs, NGO executives, and changemakers will discuss the crucial global issues generated  by the Covid-19 pandemic in order to initiate partnerships to tackle them.
