Clashes Between Vandals and Police Disrupt Traffic in Athens

Clashes erupted on Wednesday afternoon between a group of unknown individuals and police forces in central Athens.
The incidents took place outside of the University of Economics (ASOEE) on Patission Street, when a number of hooded individuals began setting trash bins on fire while throwing rocks at police officers.
The predominantly young group, most likely comprised of students, chanted slogans against the abolition of the so-called ”University Asylum” law which prevents police forces from entering the campuses of Greek universities.
Police responded with an extensive use of tear gas to dissolve the crowd, creating a foggy atmosphere, making it extremely difficult for people nearby to breathe for a time.
Traffic traveling through downtown Athens was also disrupted, but normality soon returned, after those who initiated the clashes left the site.
