The Greek government on Thursday nominated Ioannis Lianos, professor of Global Competition Law and Public Policy at University College London (UCL), for the presidency of the Hellenic Competition Commission.
Lianos is to replace current Commission president Vassiliki Thanou.
The government proposed Kalliopi Benetatou, who has served on the Commission for ten years, for the vice presidential seat, and professor of Competition Law Maria Ioannidou and Maria-Ioanna Rantou as members of the body.
“The selection of these qualified persons of high prestige at the European level in the field of Competition Law and without any involvement in politics, marks the government’s total priority on the restoration of independence and integrity in the Competition Commission,” stated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his announcement regarding the appointment on Thursday.
