Holy Light Arrives in Greece with Head of State Honors

The presidential aircraft carrying the Holy Light from Jerusalem arrived at the Elefsis Military Airport at 20:20 on Holy Saturday. Greek officials received the Holy Light with Head of State honors.
The Holy Light was then transported to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport by means of a private helicopter, where Aegean, Olympic Air, and Sky Express flights will soon deliver it to all corners of Greece.
The Greek delegation which accompanied the Holy Light from Jerusalem consisted of the Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for Ecclesiastical Diplomacy, Markos Bolaris, the Exarch of the Holy Sepulcher in Greece Archbishop Damianos, and the assistant of the Exarch of the Holy Sepulcher, Georgios Apostolakidis.

Tradition has it that on Resurrection Day the Patriarch of Jerusalem enters the chapel believed to be the tomb of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem without any device that would light a fire, such as a lighter or matches.

In fact, clergy from all other Christian all denominations checks the patriarch to see if he is  carrying any such devices before he goes in.

Once the patriarch is in the chapel, he begins to pray — and from his prayers, the candles he carries with him miraculously light up with the holy flame of the resurrection. That flame is then transported to the faithful in the church.
