Greek "Prison Mafia" Suspects Released on Bail

Greek attorney Alexandros Lykourezos

Two prominent Greek criminal lawyers who were arrested last Friday over their alleged involvement in the so-called “prison mafia” scandal were released on bail on Monday evening.
Alexandros Lykourezos and Theodoros Panagopoulos were arrested by officers of the counterterrorism unit in connection with the so-called mafia which has been operating in Athens’ Korydallos maximum-security prison.
They were released after they gave extensive statements to a prosecutor and an investigative magistrate.
Attorney Lykourezos was banned from leaving the country and had to pay bail of 50,000 euros. He will also have to appear at his local police station. Attorney Panagopoulos was also slapped with a travel ban.
The two lawyers deny any part in the supposed racket.
