Greek police in Thessaloniki arrested two suspects for migrant trafficking after they discovered 44 migrants in a warehouse in the city on Christmas Day.
Two Romanians, a 34-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, were taken into custody, accused of migrant trafficking.
The two suspects were seen leaving a warehouse where police discovered 44 migrants who were allegedly being housed temporarily there after they had illegally crossed the border between Greece and Turkey in small groups.
According to the Thessaloniki police department, the migrants had paid 1,700 euros ($1,940) each to traffickers, and the Romanians allegedly picked them up with a van in Greece, with the purpose to transport them to a still-unknown destination.
Twenty-seven of the migrants were from Pakistan, fifteen were from Afghanistan and two of the migrants were from Bangladesh.
