Greek Referee Beaten Outside His Home

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has asked Greek authorities to provide details of the brutal beating of referee Thanassis Tzilos outside his home in Larisa on Wednesday.
According to, the referee was attacked by four hooded men just after 9 A.M. (0700 GMT) as he was leaving his home.
Photos from the area show blood on the pavement where the attack took place.
The assailants disappeared after the attack.

Tzilos, who recently earned his FIFA badge, suffered injuries to his face and legs and he was rushed to the local hospital for treatment.
The head of Larisa’s local soccer association, Dimitris Bouchlariotis, confirmed on “Sport FM” radio that the attack was without a doubt soccer-related, and not a random crime. He also said his association is suspending all matches scheduled for this weekend in protest.
In the last few years there have been several attacks against Greek referees or their property. None of the culprits have ever been apprehended.
