Shipping Industry Leaders, Innovators Recognized at Capital Link Forum

Global leaders of the shipping industry congregated in Athens this week as part of the 8th Annual Capital Link Operational Excellence in Shipping – Best Industry Practices Forum. The event took place on Tuesday at the Athens Hilton, drawing over 670 participants.
With a theme of “The Industry at a Crossroads,” the forum highlighted strategies to address the future challenges in the shipping industry.
Three primary agenda topics were related to the theme of this year’s forum. These were the transformational impact of technology and digitization, the necessity of maritime education, and forthcoming environmental regulations.
The event was reported to have been a great success, and it concluded with the presentation of the Capital Link Maritime CSR Leadership Award. This award was first presented six years ago with an aim to recognize an individual or organization for their outstanding business ethics and best industry practices.
This year’s recipient was Philippe Louis-Dreyfus, chairman of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs S.A.S. and former President of BIMCO. The award was presented by Panagiotis Laskaridis, president of the European Community Shipowners Association and CEO of Lavinia Corporation and the Laskaridis Shipping Company.
In accepting the award, Louis-Dreyfus praised Greece and its position in the global shipping industry.
“Greece is traditionally the biggest country in shipping worldwide, given its fleet and presence in all international organizations. Shipping is important in Greece, and Greece is important for shipping,” said Louis-Dreyfus.
“Shipping is one of the oldest professions in the world,” continued Louis-Dreyfus. “For me however, it is also the best one. You get to build something solid, lasting, and meet fine, dedicated and passionate people. Shipping is defined by its values: solidarity and family.”
In its eighth year, the Capital Link Forum recognizes accomplishments in operational excellence in the maritime sector, best industry practices, technological innovation, and innovations in energy efficiency, environmental protection, and safety and security. The Global Lead Sponsor of this year’s forum was Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd.
Founded in 1995, Capital Link is a New York City-based investor relations, financial communications and advisory firm with a strategic focus on the maritime, commodities and energy sectors, master limited partnerships (MLPs), closed-end funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). It operates offices in London, Athens, and Oslo.
