Greece to Formally Protest Katsifas' Death in Northern Epirus

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs will issue a formal protest to Albania in response to the shooting death of 35-year-old Greek Konstantinos Katsifas, who was shot dead by Albanian authorities in the village of Bularat (Vouliarates) in northern Epirus, near the Greek-Albanian border.
Katsifas was shot and killed by the “Rinea” special forces of the Albanian police on Sunday.
According to Greece’s Kathimerini daily, Greek police officials believe that there is no supporting evidence, including no witnesses, to corroborate the account provided by Albanian authorities and to confirm that the fatal incident was connected to the fact that Katsifas raised Greek flags in the village.
For the occasion of the October 28th “Oxi Day” holiday, Bularat was already decorated with Greek flags. For this reason, the Hellenic police have requestedand will be grantedactive involvement in the official investigation regarding the circumstances under which the fatal incident occurred.
