Greece's Migrant Crisis: European Commission Announces Additional €37.5 million in Emergency Funding

On Wednesday it was announced by the European Commission that an additional 37.5 million euros will be given to Greece as emergency aid to help with the migrant crisis gripping the country.
The additional funding will be broken down into two main efforts, with the bulk of the money, some 31.1 million euros, going towards provisional services such as healthcare, interpretation and food, as well as improving the conditions at the Fylakio hotspot in Evros.
The remaining 6.4 million euros has been allotted to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN’s migration body, and plans will be made to benefit migrant reception centers throughout the country from this aid funding.
According to a Deutsche Welle report published last month, so far Greece has seen a migrant influx by 122 percent in 2018 compared to the same period last year, equalling a total of 24,000 new migrant and refugee arrivals in the first half of the year.
