Melbourne Seminar Delves into Greek History

The Greek community in Melbourne will be hosting an exciting lecture on Dr Anna Efstathiadou examining some of the propaganda prints produced by the Metaxas regime during the Greek-Italian War.

Taking place next Thursday (June 28) at 7 p.m., Efstathiadou will examine these popular icons or λαϊκές εικόνες which was lithographs reproduced in multiple copies and sold to the general public at low prices.

The Greek Community of Melbourne said: “This presentation highlights the importance of specific Second World War popular icons from the collections of the Greek National Museum in Athens, discussing how portrayals of a nation deeply rooted in history and the traditions of heroic classic antiquity and Byzantine Christianity were used by the regime as carriers of official ideas at war time and visual expressions of nationhood.”

The seminar will take place at 168-170 Lonsdale Street, Level 3, Melbourne.
