Estonia holds Greece to 0-0 Draw in World Cup Qualifiers

Greece wasn’t able to score against Estonia at a game that resulted in a 0-0 draw at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Athens for the first round of the World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday night.
Greece failed to capitalize on the triumph of Cyprus over Bosnia in Nicosia (3-2) and secure second place in the group, by stretching the advantage the Greeks have over the Bosnians, which remains at two points now.
With three games left to play in the group, Greece still has chances to finish second in the group.
Even though the national team managed to beat Estonia 2-0 away last year, on Thursday they faield to put the ball in the net, proving that the absence of injured striker Costas Mitroglou was decisive.
Grece’s coach Michael Skibbe had to deal with the absence of other key players as well, such as Vassilis Torosodis and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The mediocre performance of the Greeks did not allow for many chances to score, despite efforts by Costas Fortounis, Tasos Donis and striker Apostolos Vellios.
On Sunday, Greece hosts group leader Belgium in Piraeus. Belgium is on 19 points, Greece is second with 13, Bosnia is on 11 and Cyprus on 10. The group winner goes straight to the finals while the second place team faces a two-leg playoff.
