Public Entities, Unions React Strongly to Greek Gov't Austerity Measures

The reaction of public entities and unions to the new austerity measures the Greek government is trying to pass was expressed with strong language in the House at the discussion of the new omnibus bill.
Phrases like “You conned us!”, “Aren’t you ashamed?” or “You have nothing to do with the Left” and “You’re selling out everything!” were heard in the Greek Parliament as the new bill was presented.
The representative of the union of public sector employees (ADEDY) verbally attacked the former labor minister Giorgos Katrougalos who had promised that there will not be any pension cuts and now his replacement is slashing pensions.
The head of the union of persons with disabilities accused the government for cutting benefits and pensions. Similarly the Athens Bar president attacked the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition for raising taxes and security contributions for professionals.
The confederation of Greek workers (GSEE) representative said that the labor ministry is dismantling the union movement and the austerity measures bring more recession and poverty to Greek people.
Military union representatives accused the government for driving the armed forces staff to poverty by slashing benefits, subsidies and salaries. Similarly, police unions complained about the austerity measures saying that the SYRIZA MPs have no right to call themselves leftists after they swindled the Greek people and employees of all sectors.
The president of tradesmen and businessmen union (GSEVEE) criticized the government for adhering to all austerity measures dictated by the International Monetary Fund such as the opening of stores on Sunday. Similarly, the president of Greek enterprises and trade (ESEE) said that the tax raid on Greek people hinders growth.
