Panathinaikos Wins 6th Consecutive Cup, Beating Aris 68-59

On Saturday Panathinaikos’ basketball team won its sixth consecutive Greek Cup and set a record of 18 overall in defeating Aris 68-59.
The game was played at Thessaloniki’s Nick Galis Hall as Panathinaikos agreed to play the game at Aris. This caused a 65 minute delay in starting the game as the hosting team’s fans stormed the VIP seats and police scrambled to regain order.
Once the game started the two teams went head-to-head and almost broke even at the end of the first half with the score of 29-27, with Panathinaikos just barely in the lead.
Eventually in the third period Panathinaikos widened the gap by taking a lead of 17 points over Aris, who then cut the difference to a four point drag, but never managed to catch up. James Feline led the Greens, scoring 18 points, and the final score was 68-59.
The end of the match also saw conflict arise between the fans of the two teams who had, for the most part, remained civil throughout the match. At the end they threw flares and ripped up seats and the police intervened to restore some order as the trophy was handed to the Panathinaikos team in a hurried manner.
