Greek PM Starts Series of Meetings on Cyprus, Turkey, Refugees, Bailout Program

tsiprasPrime Minister Alexis Tsipras is to embark on a series of international meetings to discuss the migrant issue, Cyprus, Turkish provocations and Greece’s bailout program review.
On Wednesday PM Tsipras will be in Brussels, ahead of the European Union summit on Thursday. Tsipras will have a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades. Greek and Cypriot Foreign Ministers Nikos Kotzias and Ioannis Kassoulides will also participate in the meeting to discuss the Cyprus issue.
On Thursday, the Greek PM will meet with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. Tsipras will also meet with the French President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of the summit. He will discuss Turkey‘s provocations and the refugee issue.
However, highest on the agenda of the Greek prime minister is the completion of the second bailout program review, an issue that remains unresolved. The Greek government is aiming to complete the review before the end of the year in order to be eligible for participation in the European Central Bank’s quantitative easing (QE) program.
The bailout program evaluation stumbles upon differences between Greece’s European creditors and the International Monetary Fund, as the latter insists on lower primary surpluses. Also, the IMF is not convinced that Greece’s budget figures add up and proposes new fiscal measures, something that Athens opposes.
After the summit, Tsipras will visit Berlin where he will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday. He will then meet with German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel. In the afternoon he will meet with the leaders of the German Left Party (Die Linke) and the Greens.
On Saturday, the Greek prime minister will address the congress of the European Left party.
