PEPSICO Shuts Down Plant in Central Greece

korin8os-ekl1-thumb-largePEPSICO-IVI announced changes in the supply chain of soft drinks in Greece by shutting down the plant at Oinofyta, as the official company statement says.
The Oinofyta plant is the main production unit of PepsiCo-Ivi products. It started operating in 1998, in an area of 80 hectares including the warehouses. The plant produced soft drinks in glass returnable bottles, cans, non-returnable glass bottles and PET bottles.
From now on Pepsico-Ivi soft drinks for the domestic market will be supplied by plants operating in other European countries.
The company’s decision to shut down the Oinofyta plant affects 65 employees. According to a Kathimerini newspaper report, 51 individuals have been absorbed by other companies in the group, while the remaining 14 have been offered a voluntary retirement package.
PepsiCo General Manager for Central Europe and the Balkans, Christophe Guille, announced changes in the supply chain of beverages:
“Greece is an important market for PepsiCo. The company, in order  to ensure its competitiveness and be able to implement its plans for long-term development at the local level, proceeded with changes in its operation. The PepsiCo-Ivi switches to a new model of supply of soft drinks, with immediate effect, following the decision to discontinue the operation of the Oinofyta plant. This is a difficult but necessary decision for the company to face the demanding market challenges. We would like to assure our customers and consumers that we continue with dedication to offer the high quality refreshments throughout Greece.
We understand that this news will cause concern among our employees. We recognize our people’s work in the Oinofyta plant and with the highest sense of responsibility, we are committed to support a smooth transition to their next professional steps. It is important that we will find jobs for most of them, either with our partners or within PepsiCo. At the same time, we offer substantial financial support via an attractive voluntary retirement program to employees whose jobs are affected and leave PepsiCo. In addition, the company provides professional transition services for those who have not found a new job yet.
No other PepsiCo activity in Greece is affected by the current changes in the beverage industry.”
