Greek Elections: Candidates Drink Ouzo and Relax Before Big Day

tsipras_monastiraki4As it is customary, the Saturday before election day, candidates relax with friends and journalists drinking ouzo, wine and snacks (mezedes) to release the campaign pressure.
After the exchange of heated arguments, harsh remarks, accusations, debates, rally speeches and interviews, party leaders unwind waiting for the big day.
Alexis Tsipras chose to meet with the city’s young at hipster bar six d.o.g.s. at Monastiraki. His aim is to urge young Athenians to vote for SYRIZA and not abstain because, as he said, every lost vote is a vote to New Democracy.
New Democracy chief Vangelis Meimarakis met with the press and friends at a taverna at a northern suburb of Athens Chalandri.
Popular Unity leader Panagiotis Lafazanis met with party members at an ouzo bar in Nikaia, a working class neighborhood that belongs in the electoral district of Piraeus.
Panos kammenos of Independent Greeks chose a restaurant in Piraeus, while PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata will be at Bournazi Square in the working class neighborhood of Peristeri.
To Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis begged to differ by inviting journalists and friends at the Fokianos civic gym offering them homemade foods cooked by his mother.
Finally, the general secretary of the Greek Communist Party met with friends and party members at the party’s office in Kallithea.
