German Chancellor Merkel: 'Greek PM Drove Greece into a Wall'

merkelGerman Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared frustrated during her speech to CDU members, published in Spiegel magazine, where she talked about Greek Prime Minister Alexis’ Tsipras’ stance and his decision to move forward with the referendum.
The article stressed that Merkel did not hide her irritation towards the Greek Prime Minister. “Merkel knows that a Grexit will be a negative turning point, not only for Europe but also for her term as chancellor. At first she talked behind closed doors and two hours later, in public. She spoke of solidarity and stability, which, always go together, as she said. Europe’s door remains open for the Greek people,” noted the article.
According to Spiegel, the Chancellor was quoted saying that “this government does not want Greece to respect the principles of Europe. The government violates the fundamental principles of cooperation.” Furthermore, she expressed her personal disappointment with the Greek Prime Minister. “Tsipras’ policy is harsh and idealistic,” she said, “he knowingly drove the country into a wall.” Her statements were confirmed by many other participants.
“Angela Merkel cannot imagine how a leader can play a whole country in roulette. That is why she was surprised by Tsipras’ decision to call a referendum, at the last minute.”
However, the chancellor sent some warnings to her own party during the meeting. Her great success in the elections and the polls is based on the fact that Germans trust her to face any problem, whether that involves Putin, Greece or global warming, added the magazine.
