Australian TV Documentary on Xylouris Family

xilourisAustralian public broadcaster ABC will air on Tuesday, October 14, at 10 pm, a documentary entitled “Sounds Like Home” based on the film “A Family Affair” that focuses on the music tradition of Xylouris family which is kept alive by Psarantonis, his son George Xylouris or widely known as Psarogiorgis and his children Nick, Anthony and Apollonia.

The 85-minute film, directed by Angeliki Aristomenopoulou, will be released in 2015. The Xylouris family has very close ties with Australia. The camera also recorded one of the family’s most unique moments when all three Xylouris generations went on stage for a series of performances in the Golden Plains, Womadelaide, Sydney and Castlemaine Festivals.

The film follows the Xylouris family for a period of two years as it travels from Crete, Greece, to Melbourne and back, on a grueling concert tour and an attempt to deal with the spiraling difficulties of the musical profession.

The film captures how music is passed on from father to son to grandchildren in a contemporary Greek-Australian family, brought together and apart by their love of music.
