After his plea to the investigating authorities, businessman Thomas Liakounakos was released on a 300,000 euro bail and a ban on exiting the country. Liakounakos who was involved in suspicious armament deals during the 90s was summoned to apologize on the armament projects of the self-propelled artillery and defense electronics.
Antonis Kantas, who was held in pre-trial detention, had mentioned Liakounakos name, saying that the businessman had left a big travel bag containing 6,000,000 euros in the Ministry of DefenceLiakounakos denied Kantas‘ accusations. It is possible that he will have to stand before justice  once more, since he had a close relation to most of the expensive, defective, armament projects during the 90s.
The brief includes accusations concerning the fact that he signed a contract to deliver jammers and reception centers to the Greek army, but never did so, although a 35 million prepayment was deposited. The case was investigated by the prosecutor Popi Papandreou, who pressed charges upon 19 people in total, among them Liakounakos, former army chief Giorgos Antonakopoulos, two former directors general of the Ministry of Defense, as well as 14 army officers that were on the relevant committees. The charges include perfidy against the Greek state and direct or indirect complicity against the Greek state.
