Greek Antiquities and Dimitris Yeros’ Photos at Mexico’s Museo Nacional de Antropología

Ancient Greece in Mexico City: Exhibit Keramika

Since last month the Museo Nacional de Antropología (MNA) in Mexico City is hosting the gala exhibition “Keramiká. Materia divina de la Antigua Grecia”.

The one hundred or so art pieces, all of them older than two thousand years , come exclusively from the Louvre Museum collection.

The entrance and the main area of the museum are dominated by some gigantic black and white photographs of Greek archaeological sites taken by Dimitris Yeros.

The photographs, offered by the Greek artist to the Museum at the request of its director Teresa Franco, capture mainly landscapes of Corinth , Nemea and Messinia , and were taken after 1995.

Using these photographs the museum personnel have created impressive frescoes depicting the lands where the ancient artifacts originated. Protected in their special showcases, the antiquities are thus displayed in a most impressive manner.

The exhibition, which was inaugurated by the French Ambassador to Mexico Ms Elisabeth Beton Delègue, is one of the most important current cultural events in Mexico, will run until April 27 and subsequently move to Oaxaca’s Santo Domingo Cultural Center.

Learn more at the exhibit’s official website.
