Documentary Tribute to Imvros

imvrosA documentary viewing and an open discussion, in cooperation with the Hellenic American Education Center and the association Hellenic Roots will mark the reopening of the Greek Primary School on the island of Imvros after 48 years.

The Hellenic History Foundation has co-produced, together with ERT, under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and UNESCO, two documentaries that record the history and culture of the islands of Imvros and Tenedos through the testimonies of their indigenous inhabitants. The documentaries, Imvros-Tenedos islands; A tale of Memories, provide a historical overview from the Balkan wars to the destruction of Asia Minor, and the Treaty of Lausanne till nowadays.

The documentaries are directed by Irini Sarioglou and Panos Angelopoulos. Original music by Andreas Katsigiannis, song by George Dalaras and Zülfü Livaneli. The narration is by Konstantinos Markoulakis and Maria Nafpliotou.

The first of these documentaries about Imvros –an island with 180 Greek residents- will be screened at the Hellenic American Union (duration: 50min.) An open discussion with director Irini Sarioglou (Dr. of History) and author Nannina Sakka- Nikolakopoulou will follow. The event is organized in cooperation with the Hellenic American Education Center and the association, Hellenic Roots.
