The newly-appointed Greek Ambassador in Mexico City, Dimitrios Anninos, passed away on Feb. 15 of an aortic aneurysm rupture, the newspaper Kathimerini reported, only a day after presenting his credentials to President Enrique Pena Nieto. During his career, he had served as Greek General Consul in Melbourne and Shanghai, as well as Greece’s Ambassador to New Zealand. Foreign Affairs Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos expressed his condolences to the envoy’s family.
Anninos was specially endearing to Greeks abroad for his work in Melbourne and New Zealand. He was held in high regard in the diplomatic service and his professionalism in promoting the interests of his country. No further details were immediately available.
