Greece was a favorite destination this summer for Turkish tourists, as 85,450 of them traveled mostly to Greek islands, while 75,189 chose Italy.
Lesbos and Chios, two of the islands closest to Turkey, were the top picks and visits were made easier this year because of a more lenient visa process by the Greek government, and the lure of inexpensive accommodations and good food.
Representatives of the Municipality of Chios said that, “Our Municipality realizes there is great need to give a boost to Greece’s tourist incomes. As a result, we are going to support the Turkish people’s increasing arrival rates by every mean, to encourage them stay even longer on Chios, and to promote the island in neighboring country,” as well as trying to promote business.
