The eminent university Professor Neoklis Sarris passed away on Saturday of cancer. The funeral will take place at the 1st Cemetery of Athens at 3:00 p.m. Sarris was a professor of Sociology of History at Panteion University in Athens.
He was born in Istanbul 71 years ago and studied in Turkey and Greece and was a member of the main Kemalist party in Turkey, the center-left Republican People’s Party.
When he came to Athens to study he worked as a journalist in a number of Greek and Turkish newspapers and was also widely respected in Turkey’s academic circles,writing a number of books on Greece and Turkey.
