Greece will extend subsidies for heating oil, diesel and 95-octane unleaded petrol through November 15, keeping support at the levels applied during the second half of October, the government announced Friday.

The joint announcement from the finance and energy ministries covers November 1 through November 15 inclusive. The government estimated the additional budget cost at €35 million.

State support will remain at 20 cents per liter for heating oil, 15 cents for diesel and 10 cents for unleaded petrol.

How Greece fuel subsidies and refinery discounts combine

The ministries said refiners would continue additional discounts of 20 cents per liter on heating oil and 5 cents on diesel.

That brings the combined reduction to 40 cents per liter for heating oil, 20 cents for diesel and 10 cents for petrol. The 40-cent heating-oil figure therefore includes both government support and the refinery discount; it is not entirely a state subsidy.

At those rates, the combined reduction amounts to €400 on 1,000 liters of heating oil, €10 on 50 liters of diesel and €5 on 50 liters of gasoline. These are calculations of the announced per-liter support, rather than quotations for the final price of a delivery or a tank of fuel.

The latest extension also comes as European energy markets face renewed pressure ahead of winter due to military conflicts and extreme weather.
