Rhodes and the rest of the Dodecanese have been placed under a red-code mobilization alert through Thursday, October 29, because of a high risk of flooding, the Municipality of Rhodes announced Monday. The alert covers October 26–29. The municipality cited an updated National Meteorological Service warning forecasting locally heavy rain and thunderstorms across the island group, with hail possible in some areas.
The municipal civil-protection announcement asked residents and visitors to limit journeys to essential travel while severe weather is occurring. It also called for compliance with road closures and instructions from emergency services, particularly where water has accumulated.
Rhodes flood alert follows October’s destructive storm
The new warning comes less than two weeks after severe flooding damaged roads, homes and hotels on Rhodes. On October 14, floodwaters swept vehicles into the sea near Stegna, where a 62-year-old hotel employee died when his vehicle was swept away.
The red-code announcement now places the whole Dodecanese under heightened mobilization for another period of dangerous weather. The municipal civil-protection office said the warning remains in force through October 29, with further official announcements to follow as the weather develops.
