Free admission on October 28 will give visitors to Greece an opportunity to explore archaeological sites and museums during the national holiday, with the Acropolis Museum in Athens also listing the date among its annual free-entry days.

The Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development includes October 28 in its published calendar of free access to the archaeological sites and museums covered by its ticketing system.

Visiting the Acropolis Museum on October 28

October 28 falls on a Wednesday this year. Under the museum’s published summer timetable, which runs through October 31, Wednesday opening hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the last admission at 7:30 p.m.

The museum says its tickets cover the exhibition areas and the archaeological excavation beneath the building. That gives visitors a chance to see both the collections and the remains of an ancient Athenian neighborhood during the same visit.

Free tickets are issued at the museum’s ticket desk under its published arrangements. Visitors should check the official visitor page for any holiday-specific changes before setting out. Groups of 16 to 40 people must reserve in advance, and the museum warns that a reservation does not eliminate possible waiting times.

October 28 commemorates Greece’s resistance to the Italian invasion in 1940. For those staying beyond the holiday, the Hellenic Heritage calendar also lists free entry on the first and third Sundays of each month from November through March.
