Greece and the United Arab Emirates are seeking to deepen their economic ties as Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visits Athens for high-level talks and an investment forum. The visit comes as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, established in 1976. It also brings business leaders and officials together to explore opportunities in energy, finance, tourism, logistics and emerging technologies.

Sheikh Khaled arrived in Athens on October 21 at the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The two leaders are scheduled to meet at the Maximos Mansion on Thursday, October 22, before Mitsotakis attends the Greece-UAE Investment Forum.

Investment Forum Puts Business Opportunities in Focus

Enterprise Greece is organizing the forum at Conrad Athens The Ilisian. The event forms part of wider efforts to strengthen investment links between Greece and the UAE. The program includes discussions on how the two countries can attract international capital and use their geographic positions to connect markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Energy is another major focus. A scheduled panel will examine investment opportunities linked to the global energy transition, infrastructure and cooperation between European and Middle Eastern markets. Other sessions will explore how banks and other financial institutions can support investment in infrastructure, technology, healthcare and business expansion.

The agenda further includes discussions on artificial intelligence, fintech, digital assets and private markets, alongside meetings between businesses and investors.

A Relationship Extending Beyond Traditional Sectors

Greece and the UAE have expanded their cooperation in recent years, with investment, energy and technology among the areas identified for closer engagement. The UAE offers access to international capital and trade networks, while Greece provides a gateway to European markets and has opportunities in energy, tourism, transport and infrastructure.

The forum aims to help companies and investors identify areas for cooperation. However, its agenda should not be taken as confirmation that specific new investments or agreements have already been concluded. The timing also highlights the broader relationship between the two countries. Fifty years after establishing diplomatic ties, Greece and the UAE are looking to build on existing cooperation and explore new commercial opportunities.
