Greek-American Alexandros Paporakis, the 19-year-old accused of planning a mass shooting at a Hindu temple in suburban Chicago, will continue receiving hormone treatments related to gender transition while in custody, following an order issued by a Cook County judge.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the judge ordered Paporakis held without bail and issued a separate healthcare order addressing his medical needs, according to NBC Chicago.

Court proceedings revealed that Paporakis is transgender and receives hormone injections as part of gender-transition treatment.

The judge also disclosed that the defendant receives treatment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression and anxiety.

Court Orders Continued Medical Treatment

The healthcare order provides for Paporakis to receive prescribed medication while detained pending trial, including hormone injections.

The information about his gender transition and medical treatment emerged during the detention hearing, where prosecutors presented allegations concerning the planned attack.

Paporakis, a resident of Palatine who worked at a Taco Bell restaurant, was arrested Sunday after coworkers alerted authorities to messages and documents allegedly describing plans for an attack on a Hindu temple in Aurora, Illinois.

According to prosecutors, the coworkers reported that Paporakis had expressed white supremacist views and made threats against people of Indian descent.

A subsequent search of his residence uncovered an AR-style rifle without a serial number, loaded magazines, ammunition and items displaying Nazi symbols, authorities said.

Investigators also recovered a document allegedly outlining plans for a mass shooting and containing racist and antisemitic statements.

Weapons and Extremist Material Found at Suspect’s Home

Paporakis faces felony charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons.

Prosecutors allege that he intended to target worshippers at a Hindu temple in Aurora and had prepared written material describing his plans.

The Cook County judge ordered him to remain in custody pending further proceedings.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 30.
