RJ Mitte, the actor who played Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. His representatives confirmed his death on October 12, 2026. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death, and an autopsy is pending.

Mitte became widely known for playing the son of Walter White, the chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin portrayed by Bryan Cranston in the acclaimed AMC drama.

RJ Mitte Made His Mark on ‘Breaking Bad’

Mitte joined Breaking Bad as a teenager. The series ran for five seasons, from 2008 to 2013, and became one of television’s most acclaimed dramas.

His character, Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, lives with cerebral palsy. Mitte has the condition himself, and his personal experience helped bring authenticity to the role.

The character’s place in the White family grew more complicated as the series revealed the truth about his father’s criminal life. Mitte appeared throughout the show’s run, sharing key scenes with Cranston and Anna Gunn, who played his mother, Skyler White.

An Advocate for Disability Representation

Beyond acting, Mitte worked to improve representation for people with disabilities. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and led the Mitte Foundation.

His representatives described him as an actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate. They said he used his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater inclusion.

Mitte also appeared in the series Switched at Birth and The Guardians of Justice. In the 2021 film Triumph, he played a high school wrestler with cerebral palsy.

His Legacy Beyond the Screen

Mitte often spoke about how his experience with cerebral palsy shaped his approach to acting. He saw it as a source of perspective rather than a limitation.

His performance in Breaking Bad brought wider visibility to a disabled character in a major television drama. His advocacy work extended that impact beyond the screen.

Authorities have not announced a cause of death.
