Albania and Israel have signed an agreement to expand cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, technology and cybersecurity, Albania’s Foreign Ministry announced Monday.
Albania – Israel Cybersecurity Cooperation
Cybersecurity is a central component of the agreement, Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said, citing Israel’s assistance following cyberattacks against Albania’s government infrastructure in 2022.
“We are deeply grateful to Israel for the invaluable support provided to Albania in strengthening its cyber defence capabilities following the brutal cyberattacks of 2022 against our critical digital infrastructure,” Hoxha said.
Albanian authorities have attributed several cyberattacks against public institutions in recent years to Iran. Tirana has suggested that the attacks may be linked to Albania’s decision to host members of the Iranian opposition group Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK).
Existing Defense Partnership
The agreement builds on existing defense cooperation between the two countries, including joint efforts in drone production.
In January, Albania’s Defense Ministry announced a partnership with Israeli defense company Elbit Systems to produce drones, following a bilateral defense cooperation agreement signed in June 2025.
The latest agreement broadens bilateral cooperation beyond defense production to include economic and technological sectors. It also places cybersecurity alongside agriculture and energy among the areas identified for closer ties.
