Vasileia Faidra Diamanti earned women’s individual bronze in Pamplona, Spain, on Saturday, September 12, giving Greece its first medal at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships. The breakthrough came at Navarra Arena during the three-day competition.
The Greek gymnast scored 20.050 in the final to secure third place. Russia’s Anastasia Dmitrieva won gold with 20.550, narrowly ahead of Ukraine’s Anastasiia Kurashvili, who finished 0.050 points behind the winner according to a release from the Hellenic Gymnastics Federation.
World Gymnastics confirmed that Diamanti was the first Greek athlete to reach the podium in the championships’ history—a milestone for Greece in a discipline whose world championships began in 1995.
Diamanti’s climb to the world podium in Aerobic Gymnastics
Diamanti entered the medal round after placing third in Friday’s qualification with 19.950. She improved that score in the final, turning her qualifying position into a bronze medal. The Hellenic Gymnastics Federation congratulated both the athlete and her coach, Athina Gourna, for the result.
Her performance built on a series of international successes. At the 2024 World Championships in Pesaro, Italy, she finished eighth in the women’s individual final. She subsequently earned individual bronze at the 2025 European Championships in Ganja, Azerbaijan, and individual silver medals at the 2026 World Cup events in Cantanhede, Portugal, and Oradea, Romania.
Aerobic gymnastics combines continuous aerobic movement with technically demanding gymnastics elements, all performed to music. Athletes compete individually and in mixed pairs, trios and larger teams, with routines assessed for difficulty, execution and artistry.
Mixed-pair result brings European Games qualification
Diamanti also competed alongside Nikolaos Papageorgiou in the mixed-pair event in Pamplona. They scored 18.550 and placed ninth in qualification, narrowly missing the final but securing a place at the 2027 European Games.
Papageorgiou separately finished 26th in the men’s individual competition with 18.300 points.
