Greek Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis on Wednesday stressed that Greece will firmly stand by International Law and ruled out any scenario of compromise regarding the country’s sovereignty and sovereign rights.
Speaking to Greek public broadcaster ERT following the conclusion of the informal EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting held in Ireland, Gerapetritis said there was “no chance whatsoever of us accepting any retreat regarding our sovereignty and sovereign rights“.
Greece calls for EU solidarity in the face of aggression
During the Council meeting, the Greek Foreign Affairs Minister had the opportunity to brief his counterparts on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean.
“I referred to issues concerning violations of International Law in particular,” he told journalists, and reiterated that Greece always stands by International Law.
“Greece always stands for the peaceful resolution of disputes. On the other hand, there is no chance whatsoever of us accepting any retreat regarding our sovereignty and sovereign rights,” Gerapetritis asserted.
“We expect to have the immediate solidarity of the European Union and its member states in the face of any aggression,” he pointed out. “Aggression, regardless of where it originates from, has no colour. It must be addressed uniformly and consistently,” he concluded.
