Young Greek scientists are preparing to study at some of the world’s leading universities after receiving scholarships from the Bodossaki Foundation, which this year awarded 64 grants for postgraduate studies, postdoctoral research, and scientific visits abroad.
The new scholars will pursue advanced degrees and research in fields ranging from artificial intelligence and climate science to aerospace engineering, public health, and sustainable materials at institutions including Yale University, the University of Oxford, UC Berkeley, ETH Zurich, TU Delft, Lund University, and the University of Colorado Boulder.
Their studies reflect many of the global challenges shaping the future, including climate change, public health, technological innovation, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
From Climate Change to Artificial Intelligence
Among this year’s recipients is Konstantinos, who will begin a master’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences at Yale University, focusing on the impact of climate change and pollution on public health.
At Lund University in Sweden, Alexandros will specialize in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, while Anna will study Aerospace Engineering and Space Technologies at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Another scholar, Konstantina, will pursue Materials Science and Engineering at TU Delft in the Netherlands, researching advanced and sustainable materials.
Artificial intelligence also features prominently in this year’s scholarships. Tasos will study Business Analytics at the University of California, Berkeley, while Manos will examine the legal dimensions of AI through postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.
Meanwhile, Anna Maria is preparing to study Pharmaceutical Sciences at ETH Zurich.
“For us, the scholarship is not only vital support for our next academic steps, but above all a valuable vote of confidence and trust in our potential,” she said.
Joining a Community of More Than 2,800 Scholars
The latest recipients join a network of more than 2,800 Bodossaki Foundation scholars, many of whom have gone on to careers in academia, research, medicine, business, and public service.
The scholarships are awarded through three programs supporting postgraduate studies, postdoctoral research, and short-term scientific visits to universities and research centers abroad.
Merit and Financial Need
According to the Foundation, candidates are selected based on academic excellence, personal motivation, integrity, and interviews conducted during the evaluation process.
Financial need is also considered, with the aim of expanding access to higher education and supporting students who might otherwise struggle to pursue advanced studies.
Investing in Greece’s Scientific Future
Established in 1972, the Bodossaki Foundation has supported thousands of students and researchers while investing more than €450 million in education, health, environmental protection, and civil society initiatives.
This year’s scholarship recipients will now continue their studies at some of the world’s leading academic institutions, with the Foundation expressing hope that they will use their expertise to contribute to science, innovation, and society in Greece and beyond.
