Greece’s Miltos Tentoglou made a dynamic statement at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, capturing first place and tying the world-leading mark for the season. The two-time Olympic long jump champion took only three jumps; though his second attempt was a foul, his other two clearances proved to be the best of the entire competition.

The Greek champion opened the night with an explosive 8.37m, making his intentions clear from the very first round. On his third attempt, he soared to 8.46m, shattering the meeting record and matching the world-leading mark set back in March by Portugal’s Jerson Baldé.

Confident in his performance and entirely unchallenged, Tentoglou elected to pass on his remaining attempts. Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle managed an 8.32m jump on his final attempt to secure second place, leaving Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov in third (8.29m) and Italy’s Mattia Furlani in fourth (8.28m).

Miltos Tentoglou: The ultimate championship performer

Miltos Tentoglou (born March 18, 1998, in Grevena, Greece) is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most clutch long jumpers in track and field history. He doesn’t just win; he has a reputation for delivering his absolute best jumps on his final attempts under maximum pressure.

He has achieved what few athletes ever manage: he has won every major title available in his sport, multiple times over.

  • Olympic Games: 2-time Gold Medalist (Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024).
  • World Athletics Championships: Outdoor Gold (Budapest 2023) and multi-time Indoor World Champion.
  • European Championships: Complete dominance with multiple consecutive Outdoor and Indoor European Gold medals.
